Upward Mobility
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
You start as an intern in the basement. Every coworker wears their rank: an orange down-chevron for the people below you, a blue up-chevron for the people above. Pick on the people below you, sneak past the people above, and when someone corners you the conversation is a fight: their words fly at you and you dodge or parry them, then cut in with a well-timed move. Win and you climb. Can't win? Say "Let's circle back on that" and walk away. But that is unfinished business now, and when enough of it piles up it all comes due at once as a frantic chain of office microgames.
Three floors and the CEO's office, about 12 minutes. No tutorial: nobody onboards you.
Controls: WASD to move, mouse to look, Space or left click to Act, Q or right click to circle back, Esc for the pause menu and the org chart. Gamepads work too.
Windows: the build is unsigned, so SmartScreen warns. Choose "More info", then "Run anyway". macOS: not notarized. Right-click the app and choose Open the first time.
Week 3 of a weekly AI coding jam with Dallas, dealt by Jam Deck: theme "Unfinished business", verb "Climb", limit "No tutorial". Made in Godot 4.7.
Credits: people and animations by Quaternius (CC0); Low Poly Office Sets by VNBP - Leo (CC BY 4.0); kits by Kenney (CC0); Low Poly Office Interiors by JustCreate3D (paid licence); music by Abstraction (CC0) and Mulula VGM Loops (CC BY 4.0); sound effects from Sonniss GDC bundles. Full credits are on the game's Credits screen.
